We're about fifteen minutes away from the much anticipated regular season debut of Brett Favre as New York Jet. I gotta tell you, I could care less. Sure, I'm a little intrigued to see how he'll do, but I'm not rooting for him one way or another.
I know it's Brett Favre, and he's given us 16 years of memories, but it was time to move on. Everyone says that Brett Favre had a right to come back to Green Bay, and he should have been able to do and say whatever he wanted. I still think the Packers made the right decision, realizing that they can't be held hostage by some old man and his changing mind.
Here in Wisconsin, we're going to end up getting about half the Jets games on television, because of everyone's love for Favre. I'll watch the ones I can, but it's not going to be appointment TV for me. It still feels like the whole situation isn't real, like we're on some sort of alternate timeline. Maybe it's because the media circus has left, and the Jets aren't anywhere near the Packers schedule. But it feels like the Packers and the Jets are in two different leagues at this point.
So as much of Wisconsin will settle down to watch Favre like it's a Packers game, I'll sit down to watch it to. I won't get as excited about the guy as I once did when he was playing for the Green and Gold. There's only way I'll ever root for the man that once played to my heart every Sunday.
But I didn't draft him for my fantasy team.
