We're Getting Closer to a Resolution

Well, this should about do it. The summer that was the Favre saga should be coming to an end very quickly, as Favre has been reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell. The reinstatement will take effect Monday at noon, and the Packers have to figure out what roster move they will make at that time. Imagine being the guy that gets cut tomorrow because Favre couldn't decide what he wanted to do.

Favre should arrive in Green Bay sometime around 5:30pm tonight, but won't likely make an appearance at the Packers family scrimmage. Things will definitely get interesting over the next 24 hours, as the Packers are now practically forced to make a decision.

One option might be to welcome him into camp, bury him on the depth chart, and then cut him the day before the season starts. It's no way to treat one of your legendary players, but it might be the Packers best option. Rather that than let him go somewhere now.

The Packers could also trade him, but I think the only potential suitors really would be the Vikings. Nobody wants that. Or, do the Packers just suck it up and either let Favre compete for the job or just reinsert him into the starting role? That's also looking more and more likely.

Of course, all these options are moot if Favre is merely coming to Green Bay to negotiate his "marketing deal".

Either way, it looks like we'll know the answer very, very soon.
