Platoons seem to be going by the wayside for this Milwaukee Brewers club, and now you can scratch the home/away splits of their 5th starter off the list. Ned Yost officialy named Dave Bush the 5th starter today, regardless of venue. That means that Seth McClung will be sent to the bullpen, where he will likely be used in the 6th and 7th innings, rather than as a long reliever.
I like this move for a few reasons. First, I understand why you would use a platoon for positional players, but using a platoon for pitchers is just flat out stupid. I still think it was worth a try, as I've been saying, but ultimately you need to let your starters get into some sort of routine. You won't get the most out of your pitcher if you're sending him to the bullpen for a few days, and then in the dugout the next.
I like Dave Bush as the 5th guy, I think he's the better pitcher. I also think he's probably better than Jeff Suppan, but to each his own. McClung should perform well in his new role, and I was quite impressed with his work as a starter. He stretched out quite nicely and helped this club win some ballgames, which was all you could really ask for. He's definitely a 4/5 starter on other teams in the league.
