Favre's #4 to be Retired

Just a quick Favre note here. The Packers today have announced they will be retiring Favre's #4 this season. No surprise, really. However, they are choosing to do it during the first game of the season, when the Packers will be hosting the Vikings on Monday Night Football. Favre will join Tony Canadeo (#3), Don Hutson (#14), Bart Starr (#15), Ray Nitschke (#66), and Reggie White (#92) as Packers who have had their number retired. A great honor, indeed.

However, I disagree with the timing of this one. Think about it. It's likely to be Aaron Rodgers' first start as an NFL Quarterback. On Monday Night Football. Against a division rival. Filling Brett Favre's shoes. As if the shadow of Favre wasn't heavy enough on Rodgers, now he's going to be at the game?

Unless this is the Packers' way of saying, "Look Brett, thanks for everything, but there's no way we're letting you come back now, so quit talking about it."

I agree with you totally. That's alot of pressure on rodgers...but I like the move b/c it will make Favre shut up about coming back.
