Despite also being courted by the Arizona Cardinals and the St. Louis Rams, LB Brandon Chillar decided to sign with "a team that had a chance to go to the Super Bowl". It just so happens that team is the Green Bay Packers. Chillar, 25, signed a two-year $5.2 million contract.
Not a bad signing for the Packers, even though everytime Ted signs a free agent I'm still in shock. Chillar will likely compete with Poppinga for the strong side linebacker position, and it should be a good competition. Chillar's addition only makes a strong group of linebackers stronger.
Elsewhere, one of my all-time favorite NFL quarterbacks stopped in Green Bay for a visit yesterday. Gus Frerotte becomes the second back-up candidate to give Titletown a visit after Quinn Gray did last week. Frerotte has played with seven other teams during his NFL career, and also has a visit scheduled with the Vikings this week. Personally, I hope the Packers do whatever they can so that I can finally buy the Frerotte Packers jersey I have been waiting my whole life to purchase.
